For Australia the 3rd ODI Delhi pitch was tough for batting, the their squad was inexperienced and depleted by injuries, and Captain Ponting had to open the innings himself along with Shane Watson , “I’m obviously the most experienced player in our side and to put one of the other guys up to open the innings I thought would have been more of a challenge for them than it would be for me,” Ponting said. He is likely to open again.

No Indian batsman has scored a century in an ODI in Mohali. Tendulkar’s 99 is the highest so far

Pitch and conditions

The Pitch looks good for batting and the captain winning the toss might bat first.

India is without there vice captain and swash buckling opener Virender Sehwag and pace spear head Zaheer Khan who were ruled out of the Champions trophy because of injuries.

After landing in south Africa India suffered another jolt even before their Champions Trophy campaign began, with star allrounder Yuvraj Singh fracturing his right hand finger during a practice session in Johannesburg. He has been ruled out for six weeks and Karnataka opener Virat Kohli has been summoned in his place. Yuvraj’s absence will surely upset the indian middle order.

A bit of a good news for India is that another dashing opener Gautam Ghambir will be fit enough to play in this match . He had sustained a groin injury that kept him out of the Compaq Cup in Sri Lanka.

For Pakistan their captain Younis Khan will return to play against India, Shahid Afridi captained the side in there first match against New Zaaland which they won easily
The last time the two teams clashed in this venue was in the 2003 World Cup, where India won by six wickets.
